All municipalities and utility districts are required to create a service line inventory for every customer served. This is being mandated by the EPA.

We need the following information from you.

  1. The year your house was built (and if possible, the approximate year your line was replaced).
  2. Your service Line material (Plastic, Copper, Galvanized (Metal), Lead, or Other)

To identify the service line material, check where water line enters the residence.

Plastic - Most plastic pipes will be white, grey, black, or blue, in color. It will be joined with a clamp, glued, or screwed together.

Copper - If the pipe is copper in color and looks like a penny, the pipe is made of copper.

Galvanized - If the pipe is metal, use the flat edge of a screwdriver to carefully scratch the outside of the pipe. Place a magnet on the scratched area. If the magnet sticks to the pipe, it is galvanized steel.

Lead - If the magnet does not stick and the area scraped is shiny, silver in color, and looks like nickel the pipe is made of lead.

Other/Unknown - Please call 423-586-2232 if you need assistance.
